Watersong

Watersong is our second CD released at Easter at the National Folk Festival.
We are so proud of the result; from our wonderful cover artwork produced by Penny to the music we love to perform. Rosie's voice soars and Penny's harmonies complement, beautifully enhanced by Lainey's recorder and Tony's fiddle and harmonies..
We have chosen an eclectic mix of songs and tunes both original and favourites. listen to 'Shards of Glass' written by Lainey and Rosie. It's about the loss of what we all need; love!. Be prepared with a box of tissues.
'Jane Delorney' was an interesting collaboration starting with singing bowls and choral sounds which give an eerie introduction to the song, leading to Tony's improvisation on Rosie's chords. Lainey then plays 'Tamlin' over the top. Wonderful!!
The traveling song written by Rosie, is a little gem, it will make you want to take off and fly somewhere. Tony's tune set will make you want to kick off your shoes and dance.
The other songs are our favourites and are quite cruisey and uplifting. So much fun to play.
Producing our 'baby' was a wonderful, happy, creative experience. Enjoy!

Reviews

Rosie was interviewed by Richard Adey on Life Matters ABC Radio National Tues 22rd May 2007 and the song The Tiniest Part was played. We have had lots of emails and beautiful words from the listeners.

"Hi Rosie, I heard you on radio national the other day & loved it, just now a customer was asking about you as well." - Dave

"I…writing …..to tell you how beautifully moving was your song this morning on radio national. The preceding story on the programme was particularly harrowing, and then this ethereal music came on which had an effect which was practically divine.Thank you so much for making that music"

"I had tears of joy and beauty streaming down my face as I heard your beautiful, pure voice singing the Tiniest Part..."

FIRST TIME

The 'Mothers of Intention' perform an eclectic selection of Celtic music - traditional ballads, original songs and folk inspired covers. Beautiful harmonies combined with lively instrumentals bring a refreshing approach to the Celtic tradition.

Our debut album “First Time” is a compilation of our favourites and features some well known traditional Irish Ballads, energetic jigs & reels and well loved folk songs - all performed with the heartfelt belief that music is an expression of life.

FIRST TIME

Reviewed by Jim Low

As the CD title suggests, this is the first recording of this intriguingly named Sydney group of five. The group members are Penny Rankin-Smith, Elaine Balsdon, Meredith Betts, Rosie McDonald and Glenda Patterson. Penny, Meredith and Rosie provide the vocals while all members contribute to the instrumentation.
A collection of tunes and songs, the content is drawn mainly from traditional sources, including familiar favourites like Star Of The County Down, Raggle Taggle Gypsies and the Grey Funnel Line. There are also some pleasant surprises, such as the inclusion of Stephen Stills' Helplessly Hoping and one original composition celebrating a mother's love for her newborn child. I enjoyed listening to The Mothers Of Intention. I appreciated their infectious enjoyment of the music which is captured, especially in their playing. In this collection there is a rather serious edge to the songs chosen. The recording has a fresh, clear and intimate sound. I hope their intention is to keep doing what they are doing.
